Tumbling Dice's coLinux is a professional coLinux distribution based on the open source Fedora core sponsored by RedHat, which combines the innovative coLinux parasitic kernel (virtual machine) with a root file system based on a fully functional Fedora core. The basic system (supplied with a standard suite of software development tools, networking, and a KDE based GUI) may be downloaded for free from the Fedora Colinux SourceForge Project page. A vesion of coLinux based on a full Fedora Core 6 distribution is also available. This is too big for distribution via SourceForge. In order to cover our costs it is supplied on DVD which you can purchase. You can see some screenshots of the system running as a guest operating system under MicroSoft XP here. This should give you an idea of the supported functionality. The feature set includes: Seamless interoperability with windows (e.g. cut and paste etc between co-Linux X windows and XP/NT windows). Ease of installation: minimal impact on existing Windows configuration. Basic installation instructions are supplied with the free distribution. A full step by step installation manual is provided with the full (DVD) distribution. This may also be purchased separately. The full manual takes the user through all aspects of installation including networking (which can be a problem under coLinux). Full access to kde desktop via on virtual X terminal server system based on VNC technology. This means coLinux is able to run applications which require graphical support, for example, the DAISY image recognition system as easily as a native Linux installation. *Full Fedora core 6 root file system. All textual, graphical and development tools in full standard distribution are Fedora-Core 6 distribution are included on the DVD. *Additional functionality including the CRYOPID process freezing/checkpointing software bundled at no additional cost on the DVD. If you download the basic Fedora coLinux distribution from SourceForge you can get the latest version of Cryopid from here Turns XP/NT PC/Laptop into a fully functional UNIX workstation with no loss of XP/NT functionality. Using VNC XP/NT and UNIX applications work side by side on the desktop and can communicate with each other in an easy and intuitive manner. Permits painless migration of UNIX applications to XP/NT with a negligible reduction in performance compared to a native Linux kernel. Makes maximum use of your existing hardware. Full TCP/IP networking support. coLinux instance appears to be just another networked Linux host. May be interactively updated using standard Fedora-Core tools (e.g. Yum). Fully compatable with Linux clustering software This includes both high level process migration systems (e.g MOSIX or Condor) and low level virtual parallel machines (e.g. PVM or Beowulf). coLinux runs as an XP/NT user process coLinux process status is automatically frozen (and restored) when XP/NT hibernates.
